Help! My hair is breaking, especially at the sides near top and sides of head above ears!?

I think it is breaking at or very close to the scalp from bleaching and overcoloring. In some spots, it looks so scarce it appears bald. It is currently black, and I am never going to dye it again cuz I'm scared to death! Right now, it is back length (about for or five inches below shoulders.) Should i get a pixie cut and start all over to get rid of the breakage, or will this just make it look thinner and balder. Please help me! Is it damaged forever?! Or will it grow back?
