Will aquarium plants grow in any type of light?

I got a 10 gallon aquarium and it came with a lid with 2 incandescent light bulbs behind a plastic shield so water doesn't splash them. I am planning on getting live aquarium plants but i heard from a few people that you need fluorescent light. Does it really matter? Plants just need light and 2 incandescent light bulbs are pretty bright. some of my friends say its not a big deal and that my light bulbs will work fine. Others say that i should get flourscent lighting. But that would be spending money on some sort of new lid because my tank lid came with incandescent bulb built in. What i'm asking is: Will incandescent light be sufficient enough to grow aquarium plants? let me also say that my tank is in my living room right by a big window so during the day there a lot of natural light shining in. Please let me know if plants will survive under incandescent lighting conditions.
